OVERVIEW OF THE DIRECTORATE

Planning Research and Statistics is one of the Services Directorates that is responsible for planning, researching, collecting, collating, storing, and retrieving same as well as coordinating the activities and achievements of other Directorates of the Agency. 

The Directorate is located at the Agency’s Headquarters, Abuja with a liaison office in Lagos.

It also has staff in some NAFDAC Zonal & State offices.

Structure

The Directorate is headed by a director and structured into three (3) Divisions with Lagos PRS Office headed by a Deputy Director. The regular Divisions are:

  • Research & Statistics Division
  • Monitoring and Evaluation Division
  • Planning, Training, & Support Services Division.


Functions of the PRS Directorate

The functions of the PRS Directorate are as follows:

  • Development of Plans, Programmes, and Projects of the Agency.
  • Monitoring & Evaluation of Plans, Programmes & Projects of the Agency to ensure full implementation.
  • Preparation of the Agency’s Annual Workplan
  • Documentation of the Agency’s various activities and achievements for archiving and facilitating informed decision-making.
  • Production of Monthly, Quarterly & Annual Reports of activities of the Agency.
  • Coordination of Senior/Top Management meetings.
  • Coordination of all Research Matters.
  • Coordination of Internship & Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) programs.
  • Coordination of the Agency’s participation at the National Council on Health (NCH).
  • Preparation of the Agency’s report to the Joint Intelligence Board (JIB); etc
  • Coordination of Training and Staff Development Programmes including staff participation at Conferences, Seminars & Statutory Meetings in collaboration with the HRM Directorate.
  • Evaluation of the performance of Directorates/Zonal Offices
  • Provision of library services
  • Coordination of foreign GMP Inspections for the Agency with GMP capacity-building initiatives including coordination of training and specialization, inspection scheduling, certification, etc in collaboration with Inspecting Directorates.
  • Preparation of the Annual Budget in collaboration with the F&A Directorate.
  • Coordination of Excursion visits to the Agency.


Service Offerings for Engagement of Pharmacist Internship

Procedure

  1. Applicant applies for Internship Programme addressed to Director General NAFDAC (DGN), Abuja, and attaches the following document:
  • Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae/ Resume
  • Statement of Result/ Testimonial from university of graduation
  • Certificate of provisional registration (Pharmacist)
  • Pharmacy Oath (Pharmacist)
  • Any other relevant document (SSCE, birth certificate, State of Origin, Reference Letter, etc.).
  1. Shortlisted applicants receive an invitation for an Aptitude test via email (internshipdesk@nafdac.gov.ng).
  2. Applicants will participate in the scheduled aptitude test.
  3. Successful applicants are offered a (1) year provisional employment and posted to available NAFDAC Formations.


Service Offerings for Engagement of Students for SIWES

The Agency through PRS Directorate engages students in Industrial attachment, with courses relevant to the operation of NAFDAC, and posts them to our various laboratories in Lagos, Port-Harcourt, Agulu, Maiduguri, and Kaduna. Successful IT students are exposed to the use of state of Art Laboratory equipment to enhance the practical experience.

Procedure

  1. Applicant applies for SIWES addressed to Director General NAFDAC, Abuja, and attaches the introduction letter from the institution of study.

Notes:

  • The application letter must state the duration of IT, the Course of Study, and the candidate’s preferred place of posting.
  • Upon Approval by the Director General, the candidate must pay the Agency (through Remita) official tariff (3 months – N7,500, 6 months – N 10,000, and 12 months – N 20,000 respectively.
  • Only students studying Science-related courses are given the opportunity for Industrial Training in the Agency
  1. Approved candidates are issued posting letters to the appropriate laboratory on presentation of proof of payment of official tariff.
  2. Certificate issued at the end of the Training following confirmation from the Head of the Laboratory.


Service Offerings for Excursion Visits

The Directorate on behalf of the Agency hosts Students on Excursion visits to the Agency. The goal is to educate pupils and students on the Agency’s regulatory activities, measures, and processes. Presenters are drawn from PRS, FSAN, and PVPMS directorates. Oral pre and post-tests are usually conducted on the students to know if they have any prior knowledge of the activities of the Agency.  The students’ excellent performance in the NAFDAC quiz game, demonstrated by the ICT unit of the Agency shows that the students are better informed about the Agency’s activities after the excursion visits.
