NAFDAC alerts Supermarket operators

National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) hereby alerts Supermarket Operators, Retail shop owners and the general public about the circulation of some fake and expired Infant formula, energy and alcoholic beverages in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
The unwholesome products, reportedly imported into Sierra Leone from China, some Middle East and North African countries may be heading to Nigeria. These spurious products include Similac Baby Food, Vicci Malt, Pina Colada Cocktail, Faragello Juice, Poltel Brau Beer, Hulster and Orangina.
There is also an alleged plan by a European company to import contaminated genetically engineered rice into Nigeria. The poisonous rice, which is known in international market as “LL62”, contains high concentrations of contaminants including GLUFOSINATE”, a herbicide injurious to human health.NAFDAC is vigilantly working closely with Nigeria Custom Service, Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) and Security Agencies to prevent importation of these hazardous products into the country. Individuals, Business Entities, Distributors, Supermarkets and other Retail outlets who attempt to import any fake and expired regulated product into Nigeria will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law.
