Authorities Suspend Importation Of Vaccines From China Over Fear Of Contamination

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has been informed that the government of the Chinese autonomous region of Hong Kong, on the 5th of April, 2016, suspended the importation of vaccines from companies based in mainland China that were accused of the sale of contaminated vaccines. The affected vaccines, meant for the prevention of polio, rabies, chickenpox, mumps, hepatitis B, encephalitis and meningococcal diseases were manufactured by the following pharmaceutical companies:

  • Shandong Zhaoxin Biotech
  • Hebei Weifang Biological Product Supply Centre  
  • Heibei Pharmaceutical Company
  • Heibei CDC Biological Products
  • Cao Xiufen
  • Beijing Huaxia Dezhong Biological Technology

The China Food and Drug Administration, in its intervention have revoked the manufacturing licenses of the above listed companies.

NAFDAC implores importers to ensure that they do not import vaccines from the above listed companies. All outlets with products from these companies should immediately stop sale or distribution and submit products to the nearest NAFDAC office for appropriate action.

NAFDAC implores the general public to desist from using vaccines from the above mentioned companies.
