NAFDAC is the Executing Agency of the Nigeria-GAIN-Phase 2 project. The 1st quarterly meeting of the National Fortification Alliance (NFA) was held on 27th-28th July, 2009 in Abuja.
The assistance being offered by GAIN to Nigeria will be utilized to strengthen national efforts already being made towards full compliance with the mandatory food fortification programme which is a strategy for combating micronutrient deficiencies. Phase 1 of the project was successfully completed in December 2007 and Phase 2 has commenced with the disbursement of funds to cover the cost of implementing approved project activities identified to kick start this phase.
The Director-General (NAFDAC), Dr. Paul Orhii noted that it was a laudable project, which would enhance proper food production and consumption in the country and also reduce dependence on food importation.
