Meet the Director, FSAN
Mr Sherif Alaba Olagunju was appointed Director Food Safety and Applied Nutrtion on 5th March 2018.
Mr Olagunju joined the services of the Federal Government in January 1987 starting as a laboratory analyst at the Central Drug Control Laboratory, Food and Drug Administration and Control Department (FDAC), under the Federal Ministry of Health. He worked meritoriously over the years progressing through the ranks, traversing different directorates and zones, acquiring vast knowledge and regulatory experience across the Food and Drug sector.
He worked as Laboratory analyst, Food and Drug Inspector / Regulatory Officer for several years with technical experience and knowledge in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), distribution practices, food safety principles and policy development. He has played an active role in enforcement of NAFDAC laws and regulations and participated in the regulatory control of imports and exports of regulated products. He has led various teams in the interdiction of several substandard and counterfeit products. He is a member of the Federal Taskforce on Fake and Counterfeit Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods and has worked along with Interpol on several joint anti-counterfeiting operations. He has served as an expert witness in several court cases arising from various violations.
Mr. Olagunju earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Lagos in 1985 and a Master’s Degree in Business administration (MBA) from the Lagos State University awarded in 2004. He is a Fellow of the Institute for Security Studies (fsi).
