How do I clear imported regulated products?

Clearance of imported NAFDAC regulated products is done online on PIDCARMS (https://ports.nafdac.gov.ng)

Does PID issue import licenses?

Yes PID issues approvals for importation of: Packaging materials, Frozen Sea foods, Borderline products, Donated Items, Samples for machine trials and research purposes.

Do I need approval to export items for personal use?

Approval is required for exportation of all NAFDAC regulated products even items for personal use.

Which product requires CRIA?

All NAFDAC regulated products imported from China and India requires CRIA with the exemption of items on the NAFDAC CRIA exemption list.

Where do I submit my evidence of payment for PID e-licenses?

Evidence of payment for PID e-license can be submitted through NAFDAC PID Yaba account (nafdacyabaccts2017@gmail.com)

Why does NAFDAC take too much products during inspection?

All sampling during inspection is carried out according to the approved sampling guide.

How can I export NAFDAC regulated product?

NAFDAC Regulated products: Drug, Processed Food, Semi-Processed Food, Cosmetics, Medical Devices, Agro-chemicals, Chemicals and Detergent/household items.

What are Processed Food and Semi-processed food?
  1. Processed Food are food products that been processed and ready for consumption. They are usually registered by NAFDAC and are well packaged in suitable packaging materials (cans, bottles, polyethene bags, etc) under a satisfactory hygiene condition. Examples: Drinks (Alcoholic/Non-Alcoholic), Vegetables oils in retails packs, wheat/Semovita in retail pack sizes, Food Condiments, Smoked Fished in retail packs, Milk powder/liquid, etc.
  2. Semi-Processed food are food items that are partial processed and further processing is required before consumption. Examples are Sesame seed, Ginger, Melon/Egusi, Yam/Cassava Flour, Ogbono, Shea butter, Groundnut oil/vegetable oils in large containers, cray fish.
  3. Bulk Food: These are also semi-processed food items that are packed in large quantity above 50kg bags and 25litres containers pack sizes. Examples are Sesame seed, Cocoa seed, Groundnut, Cashew nut, Ginger, Palm oil, Groundnut oil, Variety of tea and Spices, etc.
What certificate(s) do I need to export?

There are five (5) Export certificates issued by NAFDAC.

1.Combined Certificate of Manufacture and Free Sales (CCMFS)-This is issue for products that are manufactured in Nigeria and registered/listed by the NAFDAC product such as Drugs, Cosmetic, Herbal remedies, Processed food, medical Devices, Agro-chemicals (Pesticides and Herbicides), Chemicals and Detergent/household items.

2.Certificate of Free Sale (CFS)-This is a certificate issued for products not manufactured in Nigeria but are registered by NAFDAC and are freely sold in the country. Examples are as Drugs, Cosmetic, Herbal remedies, processed food, medical Devices, Agro-chemicals (Pesticides and Herbicides), Chemicals and Detergent/household items imported from other countries.

3.Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (COPP)– This is certificate issued for finished pharmaceutical products manufactured in the country and registered by NAFDAC. This certificate is issued only for drug/pharmaceutical product.

4.Health Certificate– This certificate is issued to Semi-Processed Food items. They are mostly unregistered by NAFDAC. Examples are Sesame seed, Melon/Egusi, Yam/Cassava Flour, Ogbono, Shea butter, Groundnut oil/vegetable oils in large containers, cray fish, etcetera. Also note that processed food items can be issued this certificate based on the requirement of the importing country.

5.Export Certificate– This is certificate issued to NAFDAC registered regulated products that are exported/transported through the land borders.

6.Export Approval– This is approval given to small/limited quantity of all (registered, processed and semi-process food) products regulated by NAFDAC which are exported for personal use.

What are the requirements to obtain these Export Certificates?

Requirements for obtaining Health Certificate

  1. Application Letter on company’s letter head addressed to Director General NAFDAC: Attention: Director Ports Inspection. Details of the types of certificates being sought, address of manufacturer, Exporter, Names of product, quantity, pack size, net weight MUST be clearly stated.
  2. Report of Good Hygiene Practice by NAFDAC inspecting directorate.

Export Approval

  1. Letter of application to the DG NAGDAC Attention Director Ports Inspection with detail of consignee address of consignee here in Nigeria and the destination. The details of items to be exported for Personal use should be stated with a maximum sum total of 30kg for all the items on the list.
  2. A valid international Passport.
Is Health Certificate issued by NAFDAC recognized globally?

Yes, Health certificate issued by NAFDAC is globally recognized by international bodies, Stringent Regulatory Authorities, Regional Authorities, etc., such the WHO, UNICEF, UNIDO, Health Canada, European Union (EU), USFDA, UK Health and medicine regulatory authority etc.
